Abide in His Word — Freedom Beyond Belief | John 8:31-38
There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over someone who has believed for a long time, knowing all the right words but feeling something locked underneath. That dissonance is not your failure. It may be exactly where Jesus meets you.
There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over someone who has believed for a long time. Maybe you have sat in church for years, knowing all the right words, able to finish the verses before the screen catches up. And still, underneath all of it, something feels locked. You go through the motions of a freedom you cannot quite feel. You wonder, in the moments you are honest, whether the faith you describe to yourself is the same faith that is actually shaping your days. That low hum of dissonance is not a sign you have failed. It may be the very thing this passage was written to meet.
Jesus speaks these words to people who already believed in him. Not skeptics. Not enemies. Believers. And his first move is to name a condition.
