Betrayal and Glory — John 13:21-32 Devotional
Jesus was troubled in spirit. He knew Judas would betray him, yet he offered him honored guest treatment anyway—a final gesture of love to a heart already turning to stone. In that moment, something extraordinary happened: glory began to shine through the very darkness meant to destroy it.
Picture the moment when you realize someone you trusted has been planning to hurt you all along. That sinking feeling when the pieces suddenly click together, when their recent behavior finally makes sense. The half-truths that now reveal themselves as calculated deceptions. The small kindnesses that masked a larger cruelty. Jesus knew that feeling.
In John 13, as Jesus shares his final meal with the disciples, he experiences the crushing weight of knowing that one of his closest companions will hand him over to die.
