Guidance Through Ordinary Happenings — Genesis 24 Devotional

The Threshold You Cannot Cross Alone

There is a particular kind of tiredness that comes from standing at a door you cannot quite walk through. A relationship that could go either way. A move you keep almost making. A job offer, a calling, a yes that needs saying. You have prayed about it. You have waited. You have looked for a sign so clear it could not possibly be misread. And what has arrived feels like nothing solid enough to stand on. So you wait some more, afraid that moving might mean missing what God wanted, and afraid that not moving might mean the same thing.

The servant in Genesis 24 prayed at a well for a sign, and a young woman filled his cup. That sounds clean. Prayer in, answer out. But what came next was harder. He had to walk into a stranger's house and tell the whole story out loud, not yet knowing whether anyone would believe him.
