She said "It is well" three times while her son lay dead on the prophet's bed. Not because everything was fine, but because she refused to let one devastating day rewrite everything she knew about God's character.

The Shunammite woman had never asked for this son. He came as God's unannounced gift through Elisha's word, a reward for her hospitality, a blessing in her old age. Now he lay lifeless in the upper room she had built for the prophet. The gift had become a question mark, and the question pressed against everything she believed about the God who gives good gifts.
