When the Applause Fades

You know the feeling. Someone compliments your faith, how you prayed, how you served, how generous you were, and for a moment, you feel seen. Important. Spiritual, even. But later, when the room is quiet and you're alone with your thoughts, something hollow settles in. Would anyone notice your faith if you stopped performing it? Would you notice it yourself?

Jesus understood this exhaustion. In Matthew 6, he doesn't shame us for our divided hearts. Instead, he offers something better: the freedom to stop performing and start resting in God's private love.

Before we go further, stop and read Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21. Read it on Bible Gateway if you'd like.
