Sweet as Honey, Bitter as Truth — Revelation 10 Devotional
The angel hands John a little book. When he eats it, honey fills his mouth—the sweetness of God's word. Then his stomach turns sour. This is the prophet's paradox: intimacy with God's truth, and the ache of watching that truth meet a world that resists it.
Sweet as Honey, Bitter as Truth
There's a particular ache in carrying news that will both heal and wound. Like the physician who must deliver a diagnosis that offers hope for treatment but confirms the patient's worst fears, we sometimes hold truths that cut both ways. The words themselves are necessary, even merciful, yet we know they'll land hard.
John faces this same tension as a mighty angel descends from heaven, bearing a little scroll that will transform everything.
