The Covenant That Doesn't Depend on You — Genesis 9
The covenant was not established because humanity had finally cleaned itself up. It was spoken into a world still containing every failure it contained before. That is the only reason it can actually mean anything.
There is a half-second, somewhere between waking and fully awake, when the world is still okay. You reach for the phone. The screen is dark, the day not yet loaded. Then it loads. The headlines arrive, the messages, the unfinished worry waiting from yesterday. And the old question surfaces, quiet but insistent: is there anything solid enough to stand on when the ground keeps shifting?
That is not a new question. Picture a man standing on mud-soaked ground, animals milling around him, water still draining from a world that had genuinely ended. Noah did not step out into a thriving life. He stepped out as a survivor. And the question he carried into the new air was not "Will life be good?" It was rawer than that: "Will it hold?"
