The Promise You Folded Away — Genesis 17 Devotional

You built a life around the workaround. The original hope lives in a drawer now, quiet for so long that pulling it out feels foolish. But God did not return to audit those years. God returned to expand the promise, and to give you a name you haven't yet earned.

The Promise You Folded Away — Genesis 17 Devotional

The Promise You Folded Into a Drawer

What do you do with a promise that has outlasted your faith in it? Not a dramatic falling away. Just a slow, private surrender. At some point you made a sensible decision. Maybe it even worked. You built a life around the workaround, and somewhere in the back of a drawer lives the original hope you no longer pull out, because pulling it out only reminds you how long it has been quiet.

Abram is ninety-nine. Ishmael is thirteen. A whole household has formed around the plan he made when waiting became unbearable. Thirteen years have passed since God last spoke. And then, without warning, without rebuke, without making Abram explain those years, God appears. Not to audit. To expand the promise.
