When God Calls You Into Unknown Land — Genesis 12

The Doorway You Cannot See Through

There is a particular kind of stillness in a doorway. One foot rests on the floor you know, the floor that has held you for years. The other hovers over a threshold that leads somewhere you cannot picture. You have heard something. Maybe it came as a stirring, a sense that would not leave, a word that kept returning when the house was quiet. And the hardest part is not the leap. The hardest part is that the other side still looks exactly like it did before. Nothing has changed. The promise is not visible yet.

That doorway is where Genesis 12 begins. Not with a man standing in a fulfilled land, but with a man mid-step. The text gives us three words that carry the whole weight of the passage: "So Abram went." Before the appearance of God. Before the land was named as his. Before anything looked like the thing God had described.
