When You're Too Tired to Show Up — Numbers 11 Devotional

You stayed behind. Too tired, too far behind, too convinced it wouldn't matter anyway. But the Spirit did not wait for you to arrive at the proper place. It settled on you in the camp, in the ordinary middle of things, exactly where you are.

When You're Too Tired to Show Up — Numbers 11 Devotional

The Ones Who Stayed Behind

Picture the person who quietly stopped going to the center of things. The gathering, the meeting, the place where everyone else seems to be receiving something. Maybe they were too tired to make the walk. Maybe too far behind. Maybe they just couldn't convince themselves it would matter. So they stayed where they were, telling themselves that whatever God was doing was happening somewhere else, for someone else, in a room they never quite managed to enter.

That image is not invented. It lives inside Numbers 11. Two men named Eldad and Medad were registered, chosen, written down on the list of leaders, and yet they never made it to the tent. They stayed in the camp. And the Spirit rested on them there. Before we ever meet Moses' generosity or Joshua's protectiveness, this passage quietly insists on something: the Spirit is not confined to where you expected to find it.
