You Can Go Before You Feel Ready — Matthew 28:16-20
The disciples arrived at the mountain still doubting, still unsteady. And Jesus did not wait for their uncertainty to clear before he spoke. He looked at all of them—the worshipers and the waverers alike—and began with a declaration: all authority has already been given. Now go.
The Assignment Before You Feel Ready
There is a particular kind of weight that settles on a person handed something enormous at the exact moment they feel least equipped to carry it. The new parent staring at the discharge papers, certain a mistake has been made. The first-year teacher alone in an empty classroom the night before everything begins. The one asked to speak words of comfort while still crying their own tears. The need is real. The gap between what is required and what you have to offer feels almost humiliating.
And yet, what if the one handing you the assignment already knew every doubt you carry, looked at you anyway, and said: here is what you need to know first. It does not start with you.
That is exactly where Matthew's Gospel ends. On a mountain in Galilee, eleven people who scattered when Jesus was arrested now stand before the risen version of him. Some worship. Some waver. And he does not wait for the doubt to clear before he speaks.
