You Were Carried Here — Exodus 19 Devotional on Grace
God named Israel treasured possession before they promised to obey. Before a single commandment. Before they could fail. If you keep showing up with the same apology, Exodus 19 invites you to stand on different ground: you were carried here, not because you earned it, but because you are beloved.
Some promises we make over and over. Maybe it happens every January, or at the start of Lent, or quietly on a Sunday morning after a week that did not go the way you hoped. This time will be different. This time I will pray more, show up more, be more faithful. You mean it every time. You always mean it. And every time, the gap between who you said you would be and how you actually lived widens just a little more.
So what do you do with the version of yourself who keeps showing up to God with the same apology? Exodus 19 opens at a mountain, with a freed people who had done nothing to earn their freedom. And before God asks them for a single thing, God speaks first. Not a commandment. Not a standard. A memory.
