Christ Demolishes the Walls That Keep You Out — Ephesians 2
You know that feeling of being permanently on the outside, trying to prove you belong. Paul writes to people who lived that way until Christ did something radical: he didn't negotiate entry. He demolished the entire wall and rebuilt it with you as an essential part.
You know the feeling. Walking into a room where everyone already belongs, the subtle glances, the unspoken rules you don't understand, the exhausting effort of trying to prove you deserve to be there. Maybe it's a new job, a family gathering where you're the in-law, or even a church where everyone seems to know the right words except you. That deep-down sense that no matter how hard you try, you'll always be watching from the outside.
Paul writes to people who knew this feeling in their bones. The Gentile believers in Ephesus had spent their whole lives permanently locked out of God's covenant community, watching from the margins as others enjoyed a belonging they could never earn. No amount of good behavior could change their status. They were born on the wrong side of an ancient divide.
